10 Tips to Stage Your Home

You want to sell your home? First things first, get out your mop and bucket. The number one thing that goes through buyer’s minds when they step into a home is the cleanliness. If your home is spotless, you’re already one step ahead of the competition. But don’t just stop there, staging your home makes all the difference. Not everyone has the same taste so the goal of a great stage is to depersonalize the home. Have the bare essentials so that the buyers can visualize their style in the home.

Here are 10 tips to stage your home:

  1. Take a trip to a model home or browse through a design magazine for inexpensive ideas. You’re decorating for the public, not yourself.
  2. Start with the outside since people do judge a book by its cover. A fresh coat of paint, adding new hardware to the door, and planting a few flowers give off that welcoming feeling.
  3. De-clutter every room. The rooms will appear large with less furniture. Take down family pictures, trophies, and collectibles.
  4. Spend a few bucks on eco-friendly bright lights. Let as much light in as possible because light gives the impression of a happy place.
  5. Only a few pieces of furniture should be featured. Pull them away from the walls to make the rooms look bigger.
  6. Clear everything off of the kitchen counters and nightstands. Clear bathroom sinks and invest in some clean towels to hang. This may be the most difficult since they are in daily use, but make the effort.
  7. Make sure you show the room’s primary use. A bedroom should look like a bedroom, not a gym or hobby center.
  8. Not everyone is a fan of pets. Move bowls and litter boxes to utility and make use of air fresheners.
  9. Organize the garage, renting a storage unit is worth the cost if your home sells faster.
  10. Ask for your friends advice. Once the home is staged, have them come over for a walk through to get their opinions.

You will be surprised that you can stage your home for under $500. Just make the effort and do your research. It never hurts to ask for advice either.
